Finally, the much anticipated revolutionary Samsung Galaxy S10 series was debuted in San Francisco, California on the 20th of February 2019.

At the unpacked event, Samsung debuted the Galaxy S10 series smartphones namely:

Galaxy S10e

Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 5G

Galaxy S10 plus

Galaxy S10 Fold or Galaxy Fold

The S10 marks the10th anniversary of the Samsung Galaxy Series. I was thinking that Samsung will go with the “X” naming caveat popularized by their long-time rival Apple.

Glad they decided to stick with their naming caveat of numbers for their Galaxy S series.

You can be sure to expect Samsung to pack mind-blowing specs and features on these S10 series. And it is a huge leap from the previous S9 that was launched last year.

Another area, where Samsung impressed me a lot is by ditching the notch and instead went with a new Infinity O display for the S10 series. See the picture above.

The Infinity O display looks more or less like a pinhole cut out in the display or simply a hole-in-display system.

Most people agree this is way better than the big notch in the iPhone X and XS series. Hopefully, Apple will take a cue from Samsung and drastically shrink the notch as well.

You have to give Samsung props for not implementing the notch all compared to other Android smartphones copying the Apple iPhone X, XS notch.

Personally, I think Samsung got it right this time with their latest flagships.

Starting from the Galaxy S10e, which is the least of the S10 series is an excellent smartphone to choose if you are on a low budget and still want to enjoy the benefits of the S10 series.

Though a budget Samsung Galaxy S10e smartphone priced at $749 is not in my opinion cheap.

That is over ₦270,000 based on the current exchange rate of 361/$1. When you get to the standard S10, then we are looking at over ₦300k.

But when you compare the S10e with the Apple XR, you will consider it is a good deal judging from the specs and extra features.

However, we all know Apple products usually have a high price tag on all their products which is arguably due to their build and ecosystem so it’s no news.

And Samsung has followed suit in recent years. Though you get discounts on old flagship months after launch which can’t be said about Apple.

Either way, with the low sales of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Apple XS series, I thought by now, that smartphone prices would start falling in 2019.

Well, I’m not so sure about that now…

See the starting prices of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series below:

Galaxy S10e – $749, ₦271,138

Galaxy S10 – $899, ₦325,438

Galaxy S10 plus – $999, ₦361,638

Galaxy S10 Fold or Galaxy Fold – ₦716,760

As you can see the S10e is the cheapest while the Galaxy fold is on the high side starting at.

Considering the fact that the Galaxy fold is a new product line up packing lots of new exciting features and specifications, it’s only normal for Samsung to put a high price tag on their new smartphone tech.

However, we won’t be going much into the Galaxy Fold in this post.

The Galaxy S10 starting price is $899. It packs new and upgraded features notably in the display, RAM, camera, Storage and Samsung is also launching the 5G variant which is more superior to all other S10 series.

Though I won’t be too happy yet as 5G is not fully available so you may not be able to use the network comfortably for the time being.

You can just go with the standard S10. However, if you want to see what the network looks like and how it’s going to work in a smartphone, you can go for it.

By 2020, we expect that 5G coverage should start increasing on a massive scale around the world. Hopefully, in a few years, 5G will become mainstream.

Anyways, the S10 is an excellent smartphone money can buy in 2019. We are talking about the 10th anniversary of the Samsung Galaxy. We had great expectations and Samsung delivered.

The S10 series are extremely gorgeous with their AMOLED displays and the smallest bezels in any Samsung smartphones ever. Coupled with the in-display fingerprint sensor, they really hit the mark.

The S10e, however, did not come with an in-display fingerprint. Instead, the fingerprint is placed at the side of the phone.

At least this is better than when it was being placed the back is the previous S series.

The S10 and S10 plus come with the fingerprint sensor under the display and it’s very exciting, to say the least.

Hopefully, we will get to see that in the 2019 iPhones.

2019 is the year of triple-camera setup for the rear camera. In the last few years, we have seen an increasing bump in the camera system.

Dual-camera setup is now looking like an old trend for rear cameras, now the industry is leaning towards triple-camera setup.

Do we really need that much?

Well, innovation is a force that is driven by competition, so every top company in the smartphone market is trying to outdo the others.

Great isn’t it?

Maybe the S11 series will sport two dual lens rear camera or four-lens rear camera system. Who knows…? Time will tell.

Anyways now we have the triple-lens rear camera setup in the S10 series, and you can be sure of getting the best camera photo quality ever in a smartphone.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S10 TRIPLE LENS CAMERA

The S10 and S10 plus come with the triple-lens rear camera. However, the S10e comes with the usual dual camera setup which is still great in 2019.

Nothing really special for the front camera expect that the S10 plus comes with a dual-lens front camera which looks like two pinholes joined together in the display.

So if you love taking selfies a lot, you might want to try the S10 plus for a change. You also get the benefit of a big 6.4 inch AMOLED screen on the S10 plus, compared to the 5.8 inch AMOLED display in the S10e and the 6.1 inch AMOLED in the S10.

However, the 5G variant of the S10 comes with a whopping 6.7 inch AMOLED. If you want the full package, this should be your number one choice.

In terms of performance, the S10 series sports a Snapdragon 855 which is an upgrade from the Snapdragon 845 on the Samsung S9 so you can expect better performance.

Coupled with the big RAM in the S10 series, you can be sure of overall improvement in performance, memory management and user experience.

Storage options start from 128GB and can get up to 1TB on the S10 plus making Samsung the first smartphone to get 1TB storage options.

You can agree wit me that this is getting insane. Heck, most of our laptops don’t get up to the RAM and Inbuilt storage available on these latest Samsung flagships and in high-end smartphones in general.

Lastly, let’s take a look at the battery life of the S10 series. I’m sure you guys will agree with me that this review won’t be complete without talking about the battery life of these powerful smartphones.

Samsung has bumped up the battery in their S10 series. In fact, it can get up to a whopping 4100mAh in the S10 plus and 4500mAh in the S10 5G version.

The S10e has 3100mAh while the standard S10 comes with 3400mAh battery capacity.

The upgraded performance in the S10 series is expected to increase power consumption. And coupled with the AMOLED screens, it’s only natural that Samsung bumps the battery capacity up.

We hope the battery life will be able to last long as Samsung claim.

Either way, we have the Quick charging feature on all the S10 series so you can quickly get a full charge.

Already impressed by all the specs you have read so far. Well, Samsung decided to crown it all with one insane feature – The ability to charge other phones WIRELESSLY.

Yes, you heard me right.

Insane isn’t it?

Samsung called this feature the “Wireless PowerShare”. And you can use this feature to charge other phones and accessories like the new Samsung Galaxy Buds.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S10 WIRELESS POWERSHARE

Overall the Galaxy S10 series is an excellent smartphone series with insane specs from the Samsung camp. Hopefully, in the S11, we will get an “all-full bezel-less display that will change the game completely.

In the meantime, Samsung users can enjoy this display and escape the “notch” wave that is still blowing in the smartphone industry.

Will the infinity-O display turn out to be a better design or a terrible mistake compared to the notch? Time will tell.

CONCLUSION

Samsung has really done well in this S10 series. Although some may be discouraged by the price, our expectation is that the S10 series will be quite successful than the previous S9 series.
